Tips for Making Baby Food
After a few weeks of debating with yourself, you are finally convinced that making baby food at home is the best
way of going about it. If you are planning on cooking the food by yourself at home, follow some of our quick tips
to help you save time and efforts in making baby food.
- Plan the making of baby food a little carefully. Being a new parent means never having enough time to get
all work done. Start with something very simple, do not try to get adventurous now and work on complex recipes.
You will have time to do all that later on. Just make sure that you are including as fresh and as nutritious
ingredients as possible.
- Since you are making this dish for your little baby, make it to last for only four or five servings. Every
time pull out only one serving and if your baby wants more, you could give her more. Take things slowly – your
baby will need some time to get used to the taste and texture of solid foods.
- Once you have decided what you plan to cook and how much you are going to cook, decide when you would like
to cook these dishes. The best time is either when baby is asleep or she has just been fed and is content for
some time. It would also help immensely if you could find someone to take care of baby while you are
cooking.
- Just steam cook the fruits and vegetables you have chosen. Steam cooking allows the nutrient values to be
retained inside the food. Do not add salt or sugar to the food.
- Once the food is cooked, mash the food well for young babies while for older babies you could just strain
out the water. If you find the food too thick after straining, you can add some formula or breast milk to bring
it a semi-liquid consistency.
- Taste the dish and make some variations so that you like the taste. Your baby food is ready!
- Next place this baby food in small ice cube jars and freeze it. When you need to serve your baby, you can
just pop one or two cubes of the required dish and warm it in a microwave, before serving your baby.
While the above tips will save you a great deal of time and efforts, you have to remember that nothing should be
stored for more than two days in ordinary refrigerators. Ensure that you finish the dish within 48 hours of making
it.
Similarly having defrozen some quantity, do not try to refreeze it – once you leave the dish outside, bacteria
may have already started forming in the dish. If there are any leftovers, just throw it away. To reduce wastage
therefore, pull out only as much as you think your baby can realistically have.
Follow our tips on making baby food at home and soon you will be making them like an expert cook.
